IWB Holsters Here is the Most Interesting Thing That [Most People Don’t Know!]

Important Things To Consider

Dominant Hand vs Non-Dominant Hand

You should always use your dominant hand to draw your weapon.

Dominant hand allows you to be more efficient and quicker when drawing and using your weapon, which is essential in an emergency situation.

When we think of an inside of the waistband [IWB] holster, we think of concealed carry holsters that are tucked away inside of the waistline.

But, is that all there is to it?  You guessed it, NO!

Carrying an IWB Holster OWB

Most people don't know, but you can carry a typical inside of the waistband [IWB] holster outside of the waistband [OWB], but there is catch.

How To Do It

Carrying an IWB holster on the OWB does not require any special tools.

But, here is the catch!  To carry an IWB holster OWB you would simply carry it on you weak side.

So, this means that a non-dominant hand IWB holster can easily become a dominant hand OWB holster.

That being said, if you want to carry an IWB holster OWB you would have to use an IWB holster that's for your non-dominant hand.

Not Every Belt Clip Works

We used a FOMI belt clip to test this method, but not every type of IWB holster belt clip is ideal when using this method.

Make sure you that you use a belt clip that will securely hold the holster on the belt and provide good stability.

If carried without a belt, make sure you have a strong waistline and the a belt clip that works without a belt.

Why Use This Method

There are several reasons why people use this method:

  • It works
  • More OWB holster options to choose from
  • There is an IWB holster you really like and want to use OWB
  • You're ambidextrous and can efficiently use both hands
  • Practice using non-dominant hand on the range with non-dominant hand holster
  • Injury or disability to your dominant hand

Final Thoughts

We conducted testing using a Glock 19 with a TLR-7.  The holster we used was a Davis Tactical IWB Light Bearing Holster.

We've tested this method and found that using it does not really have a major impact on accessibility and draw speed.

The grip end of the weapon is fully exposed so that you can quickly, but more importantly, safely draw you weapon

The full sweat shield does not effect your ability to draw you weapon and provides an extended barrier between your trigger finger and the trigger so that you can safely draw your weapon and avoid any accidental discharges.
