Essential vs Non-Essential EDC Gear

Lets break it down!

We can all agree that EDC gear that is designed to keep you safe is the most important kind of EDC gear that one must carry at all times.

So lets break down EDC gear into essential and non-essential gear. It's pretty simple, essential gear is anything that is used for safety, security, and survival.

Non-essential gear is anything that is outside of those 3 categories. E.g. electronic devices such as laptops, iPads, headphones, etc.

Although, non-essential gear may be important for personal reasons such as work or entertainment use, they won't save your life.

So, inundating your EDC with non-essential gear may force you to leave some essential EDC gear behind.  But, is it possible to carry all EDC?

Simple answer is yes.  Balancing non-essential EDC gear with essential EDC gear is important so that you're not overwhelmed with the amount of EDC gear that you may find yourself carrying on daily basis.

EDC Gear for Safety, Security, and Survival

So what kind of EDC gear is ideal for safety, security, and survival?

Self-defense EDC gear such as firearms, pocket knives, etc., are ideal to carry for safety and security however, carrying these weapons may present you with some legal challenges, e.g. CCW permits.

Deadly weapons such as firearms and pocket knives may not be permitted inside private or public buildings: e.g. malls, stadiums, courts, etc.

Other self-defense EDC gear such as tactical flashlights or pens may be a good substitute for when other more traditional self-defense weapons are prohibited.
