5 Ways Women Secure Themselves When Alone in Public

ways for women to protect themselves alone

For women to safely carry a concealed weapon, whether it be your preferred firearm or a legal size knife for that up-close protection, conceal these weapons has not always been easy properly.

Today, however, we can adequately conceal our weapons and maintain our security when running errands or just out on the town for the evening.

Below are five ways you can protect yourself and maintain security so that you get back home safely after each trip.

5 Ways for Women to Secure Themselves When Alone

1. Consider An On-Body Holster

When women are approached and met with unwanted situations, the handbag or purse is usually separated early.

If your purse is snatched or taken, you still need to be able to access your weapon.

With an on-body holster, you should be able to reach the gun easily despite it being concealed.

Not all holsters work for each woman, so try a few out on your body type to determine if you like your weapon hidden at your ankle or if you prefer your .38 in your bra holster.

2. Choose A Handbag Accessory When Required

Even with small purses and clutches, versions are made to carry a small weapon for protection safely.

If you must carry a bag where you are going, make sure that you can easily access your weapon when you reach your hand in the purse if you see someone approaching.

Not all environments or wardrobes allow for an on-person carry, so be strategic.

Always carry a bag that has a holster made into it so that your firearm is secure and placed strategically where you can access it quickly.

3. Become Familiar With Your Surroundings

If you are out running errands at one of your favorite stores or restaurants, you have probably been in the area during the daylight.

Make a note of any large bushes by entryways, dark corners that are not lit up with outdoor lighting, and even corner areas where the trash and recycling are hidden.

When you park your vehicle, try to always part underneath a light or closer to the door where there is customer activity and a heavier population.

4. Practice Regularly

If you are planning to carry a firearm, you need to know how to use it. Just pulling it out in the event of danger is not enough for an inexperienced shooter.

Head out to the range a couple of times a month to practice your aim and get familiar with your firearm.

If you like to change out the firearms, you carry, make sure you practice with all of them so that you are ready no matter which one you pulled for the day.

After cleaning your firearm(s), make sure that they are cleaned and prepared. A dirty gun is dangerous and can be useless in a time of need.

5. Trust Your Gut

There is a reason a woman's intuition is praised. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it probably is one.

If you are in a situation that is giving you a bad feeling, you should leave.

Turn around and get out of there immediately. If the parking lot looks sketchy, don't even get out of the car.  Back straight up and drive away.
